iTunes Replay

Apple Insider is reporting that Apple is getting ready to launch a media streaming service called Replay which would work with iTunes 8. This would allow a purchase from iTunes to be streamed anywhere the consumer is logged into iTunes. Right now it seems to be geared toward TV shows and movies. Mobile device users could watch what they bought, but not have to take up precious storage space on their device. It's similar to the Instant Watch service Netflix offers now, but it's mobile. This would be a big boast for the iPhone and iTouch. Apple creates a product and then builds programs to make using them easier and more efficient; therefore selling more products. The major record labels couldn't do it, but Apple did.

It's All About the Apps

Music Apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch are getting a lot of press these days. Nine Inch Nails who always seem to be at the forefront of technology, released one in September. Weezer just put out Christmas with Weezer. Behind most of these apps is Tapulous. They are the creators of Tap Tap Revenge which is the all-time most popular game for the iPhone. I downloaded it today. The first track I got was Nick Galliant-a cross between Earth Wind and Fire and Nick Gilder. With the exception of Weezer's We Wish You a Merry Christmas, I was unfamiliar with the artists. This is the free version of the game. I could have paid $5 for the full Christmas with Weezer. The blog at Wired.com mentioned the apps as an additional source of income for musicians. This article focuses more on gadgets and games such as rock band. Apps are a great way for fans to stay in touch with what's going on with their favorite artists. Matt Kozlov of Sony/BMG introduced me to the Pink app, Pink's Funhouse. There is music, news, bio and of course lots of photos. Expect a powerhouse app in advance of The Fray's new album.
